The italian development cooperation celebrates the conclusion of the health care project for the Iraqi refugees in Jordan. A specific program funded with a contribution of around 560 thousand euros and led by the NGO “Un ponte per… “, a vuluntary organization born in 1991 – after the bombing of Iraq and at the beginning of the international embargo – in order to promote initiatives of solidarity in behalf of the Iraqi people. The end project rapport has been exposed by the Italian ambassador in Amman, Francesco Fransoni, and from the NGO mission chief, Tiziano Blasi. At first, Fransoni has explained the project is not solely aimed at “the Iraqi people living in Jordan but also at the population living in precarious conditions”. Tiziano Blasi reported some of the results achieved by the project. In particular the ability of the four primary care centers (Amman, Fuheis, Irbid e Zarqa)to assist 40-50 patients up to 90 per day, activating the mobile medical unit, reaching patients in remote areas of the country. Italy is the fifth contributor country in Jordan and has a long cooperation history. The bilateral agreement with Jordan was signed in 2000 and commited Italy to fund 10 projects for about 88 million euros. But it’s not all, because another 80 million were fully used – by 2003 – to realize initiatives aimed to the socio-economic development.
