(16 Feb) Giancarlo Bigazzi, music producer, composer and lyricist, died last January 19th. He has been a great ‘ambassador of Italian culture in the world’. The association of Italian Independent Music Producers, PMI, has dedicated to his memory the PMI Award 2012 for the “outstanding contribution to promoting the Italian musical culture in the world”. The PMI Award was created to celebrate every year the Italian artist who stands out in the diffusion of Italian music and culture in the world. Mario Limongelli, president of the PMI, has remarked that “it is the first time the award is ‘in memory’, to remember a great author and producer who has helped to grow Italian music in the world with his unforgettable melodies. This award expresses the hope that the production of Italian music will always have the level of attention it deserves”. Leader of the band ‘Squallor’, Bigazzi has signed some of the greatest Italian successes, including “Rose Rosse” by Massimo Ranieri. (Roc)
THE ASSOCIATION OF ITALIAN INDEPENDENT MUSIC PRODUCERS
The Association of Italian Independent Music Producers PMI put together over 130 independent companies that produce music, and it’s member of Confindustria Cultura Italia: “The Association – said a statement – gathers the Italian entrepreneurs determined to uphold the rights of independent production, to have a richer musical panorama, not necessarily approved by the logic of multinational corporations. The PMI believes that the changes taking place have been lived up only as a threat, unaware of new opportunities they provide for the Italian entrepreneurship in music”. Among its objectives, the PMI aims to “help the Italian independent music production to find the necessary economic and resources to promote our creativity, in Italy and abroad”. The Association represents the independent record industry in the Board of Impala, European Association of Independent Producers based in Brussels.
