(Feb 27) – 17 billions of foreign investments in the next three years, which will create at least one million new jobs. These are the prospects of development for Mozambique, as estimated by the Africa Investment Promotion Agency. According to local media, in the next three years will be well launched 1,250 development projects in several sectors. In this framework the role of the Italian Cooperation is very important: “Among our bilateral interventions, – as on the website of the Italian Cooperation – there are: the General budget support program (12 millions), the decentralization and local development support program (5.2 millions), participation in the Mozambique health sector support program (2.5 millions), the program to encourage the human resources development in the health sector (4.8 million)”. Also important the trilateral cooperation initiative with Brazil, for the renovation of Barrio Chamanculo C in Maputo (1.2 millions), the support program at the University Eduardo Mondlane (4.5 millions, at startup) and “last but not least – the website explains -, the construction of the Nhacangara dam and the drainage mechanisms of waste water in Maputo, for 60 millions euros aid”. HISTORY AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ITALIAN COOPERATION
The Development Cooperation started its work in the Fifties to ensure respect for human dignity and economic growth of all peoples. Then the activity became more systematic, with the aim of contributing to international efforts to end poverty. More recently, new emergencies have given the cooperative a decisive role in the choices of Italian foreign policy for the maintenance of peace and the management of migration flows. The activities of Italian Cooperation are regulated by the Law of February 26th 1987 n.49, which reorder of the whole matter and establish the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (MAE-DGCS).
