On March 4, following the explosion of a munitions depot in Brazzaville, 250 people died, 1500 were injured – according to the government and the municipal morgue – and 3500 evacuated. The goods were bought with a donation of the embassy employees, including 50 mattresses and 500 kilos of food supplies and other basic necessities.
Italy has also contributed with a donation of 50000 euros by the Development Cooperation to support the activities of the Congolese Red Cross. The humanitarian organization aims to provide assistance for a 4 months period, through distribution of essential items (blankets, mosquito nets, clothing, toiletries, kitchen utensils) and food.
