(Mar. 19) – The volume of Fincantieri’s business continues to grow. The U.S. Navy has in fact formalized the allocation of 715 million dollars for the construction of two out of 10 units, planned at the end of 2010 under the LCS (Littoral Combat Ships). A program in which Fincantieri plays a very important role, because it participates in the consortium led by the defense giant Lockheed Martin with its shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin. Marinette will realize the two ships, the “USS Little Rock” and “USS Sioux City” which will follow the sister ships “Milwaukee” and “Detroit, built on the same site. The program has enormously benefited enormously from the experience gained with the “Freedom”, a prototype ship of the LCS program. “The acquisition of this contract is very important to us, and it follows the recent order of 90 million dollars by the U.S. Coast. “We are very proud we can keep on serving the U.S. Coast Guard,” said Fincantieri Chief Executive Officer, Giuseppe Bono. “This order confirms that the acquisition of our shipyards in the United States proved to be a winning strategy and allows our company to provide with top-quality vessels not only the Coast Guard but also the U.S. Navy, as well as a wide range of non-government customers.” (Ram/Peg)
