(Mar. 20) – The company Enel Green Power, with its subsidiary Enel North America, has expanded the capacity of the photovoltaic plant in Stillwater, combined to a binary cycle geothermal power plant. This brings to 26 MW, from the last 24 MW, the photovoltaic capacity of the plant located in Churchill County, Nevada, which also produces 33 MW from geothermal. This is the first hybrid project in the world of renewable energy, which combines the generation capacity of binary cycle geothermal with the peak capacity of solar power, allowing a better match with the energy needs of NV Energy customers. The solar plant will produce clean energy equivalent to 43 million kWh per year, enough for over 16,000 American households, avoiding emissions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for about 30,000 tons a year. With this plant, the total installed capacity in North America exceeds 1,000 MW. (Ram/Peg)
