(Apr. 3) – Genport SRL, an Italy-based developer of electric generators and batteries, announced plans to build its North American headquarters in West Lafayette, Indiana, creating up to 20 jobs by 2015.
The company expects to start hiring engineers in the coming months and be fully operational by fall.
Genport SRL, a products provider for the military, emergency and medical industries, will be headquartered in the Purdue Research Park. The company plans to invest 2 million dollars to lease the facility and purchase office and laboratory equipment, according to a news release from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, a board created by Governor Mitch Daniels.
“We chose to establish our U.S. Subsidiary in West Lafayette to benefit from the tremendous environment of the Purdue Research Park and the state of Indiana,” said Paolo Fracas, CEO of Genport SLR.
Genport, which operates two facilities in Vimercate and Milan, Italy, was founded in 2009 and released its first generation of portable hybrid fuel cells in 2010. The company recently received the 2011 Friend of the Environment Innovation Award in Milan for the category of relevant innovations for the company’s energy-efficient technology systems. “I am so pleased to welcome Genport to the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette,” said West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis. “Our ongoing partnership with the Purdue Research Foundation continues to attract companies from around the world. The addition of this international company is proof that our local economy truly has a global impact.”
The Indiana state board will provide tax credits and training grants if the projected jobs are created. (Peg)
