(Apr. 4) – The main goal of “Retaining Girls in Lower Secondary Schools and Increasing Their Learning Outcomes in Ethiopia” is to relaunch the role of women and the importance of their involvement in civil society. The project has been subscribed yesterday during an official ceremony by the Ethiopian Minister of Education, the Ambassador of Italy in Ethiopia and the Director of the International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) of the UNESCO. Despite the harsh financial situation, the Italian government has allocated 500 thousand dollars to fund the project. The IICBA, with its experience of over a decade in assisting African countries in teacher’s training, long distance training and educational planning, will be the leading partner in the effort, as stated by the director of IICBA, Arnaldo Nhavoto, “to ensure that girls and young women of the emerging regions of Ethiopia have the social and economic conditions that enable them to continue the path towards a higher education and a better life.” (Ram/Peg)
