(Apr. 5) – Fragrant, delicate, tasty. Nutritious, because it has a low fat content. Everyone like it because it can be eaten like a snacks, to enrich the dishes or as an ingredient in the preparation of many recipes: Parmigiano-Reggiano is the ‘king of cheese’. It is widely appreciated, even in distant countries, such as China and Japan. And now the PDO cheese has captured the Canadian market: a new trade agreement signed by the Consortium of Parmigiano-Reggiano, by the company Food Mill and the distribution chain Loblaws, a true giant in the industry with approximately 1,400 supermarkets, a 43% market share and a turnover of around 18 billion euros. In figures, the three-year agreement between Food Mill and Loblaws assures the supply of 10.000/13.000 forms for 2012, 450/500 tons of cheese, which will lead immediately to a 30% increase in exports towards Canada, where in 2011 the sales of Parmesan cheese have grown in value of 19.56%. A particularly important supply agreement, signed after running a test conducted in 2011, which had a turnover in the final balance of about 3 million euros. (Gil/Peg)
