(Apr. 10) – “I moved to Brussels in August 2010 with the organization I’m involved, AEGEE-Europe. The idea was very simple: after many years of study, it was time for me to do to something more concrete. I was elected in the Steering Committee of the organization and I was the first president of the AEGEE Salerno and now I am one of the European presidents.” Alfredo Sellitti loves to travel and to learn foreign languages, he was born in Nocera Inferiore less than thirty years ago. Today he lives in Brussels and is one of the presidents of AEGEE-Europe, a student organization that promotes cooperation, communication and integration amongst young people in Europe. “I studied at the University of Salerno. I have a degree in Political Science and International Relations and I graduated in diplomatic studies in Naples,” says Alfredo with enthusiasm about the choice he made. He said to live with dreams and hopes as his generation does. About his decision to leave Italy, he explains: “I left because I believe in multicultural education. Many friends of mine who studied international relations, they never considered the chance of moving abroad,” continues Sellitti, who heads the largest interdisciplinary European student association. He also puts his country and his Italian colleagues down: “There is a too little entrepreneurial initiative, there are still a few who leave to enrich their culture.” In the past months, Alfredo thought to return to Italy, but thanks to the positive experience that he is living, he is not sure anymore: “At first I thought I’d be back because my preparation for the diplomatic service involved in some way a constant contact with Italy. But after this experience in Brussels – he says -, I’m not so sure about it: working in a multicultural environment with people of different nationalities has a great fascination to me. It enriches me and makes me grow.” (Gil/Peg)
