(Apr. 13) – Flavio Miorandi, 16 years, is a student of Liceo Rosmini, in Rovereto, and winner of the Italian final of the International Brain Bee, held last February in Trieste. This summer, in Cape Town, South Africa, he will represent Italy and compete with students from around the world during the international competition. The national final of the Brain Bee was sponsored by the Italian Society of Neuroscience in collaboration with provincial and regional partners, such as the Centre for Integrative Biology (CIBIO), University of Trento and the Science Museum. Flavio won the final after competing with other 30 Italian students, coming from Italian secondary schools and from Istria, after passing the regional selections, answering questions, crossword puzzles and quizzes on topics such as “what happens after a brain injury, what is the short-term memory, what are the symptoms of anxiety, depression, Parkinson’s disease or schizophrenia.” For him is like a dream come true: “I would like to be a neurosurgeon. I hope the winning of Brain Bee could only anticipate a degree in medicine.” (Ram/Peg)
