(Apr. 24) “If you hold on, sooner or later life will pay you back.” So says Giulia Piccari, 34, born in Rimini and living in New York. Giulia is a photographer with a rich curriculum: “I have worked with celebrities, for fashion shows, during New York Fashion Week, and for film sets. I had the fortune to meet professional people who enhanced my work.”. The freelance photographer has been working in New York for five years. “When I was 20, I moved to London to learn English. I attended a photography course at Westminster College. Photography is my passion and since then I haven’t given up with it. In September 2001, I returned to Italy, where I attended a master’s degree in photography at the ISF-Ci in Rome, one of the best photography schools. In 2003 I won a photo contest organized by Wind-Kodak and have been awarded by Giuseppe Tornatore, jury’s president.” She speaks about her job with enthusiasm, passion and determination: “I’ve also worked for charities. After a gig with Italian Television RAI, I left for Florida in 2006. In March 2007 I moved permanently to New York where I found professional success.” To Giulia, leaving italy was “encouraging and exciting” because “you get in touch with new cultures and you learn how to manage your life. It was not easy at first,” she admits “and I wanted to return to Italy”. Julia is now satisfied with the choice she made: “Americans believe in meritocracy, they are honest and pay you even before you have done your job. They believe in your skills and abilities. Today I am often called for photographic work in fashion shows, backstage, concerts, theater plays. I Work as a freelance and I get new jobs through networking: I was lucky to meet the right people.” (PO/Gil/Peg)
