(May 31) “The 1942 World Cup doesn’t figure in any history book, even if it was played in Patagonia.” This line of Osvaldo Soriano (taken from the story “The son of Butch Cassidy” Einaudi) is the inspiration of “The Lost World Cup”, the movie which will represent Italy at the upcoming Shanghai International Film Festival, to be held from June 16 to 24. Distributed by JP Entertainment, it is scheduled to be released on June 8, on the occasion of the inauguration of the European Football Championship 2012. Starting from the suggestion of Soriano, the film directed by Lorenzo Garzella and Filippo Macelloni reconstructs the mysterious story of the 1942 Patagonia World Soccer Championship, never acknowledged by the official sports organizations, and which for decades have remained shrouded in legend without the winner ever being known. The film was produced by Verdeoro and Argentina’s DockSur Produciones, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, Rai Trade, Istituto Luce-Cinecittà and Nanof, and with support from the Ministry of Culture and INCAA.
