(Jun. 21) In Paris, at the 4th General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Union of Pro Loco (UNPLI) has received a major recognition from UNESCO as a consultant for the Intergovernmental Committee provided by the Convention, thanks to the results obtained for the preservation and protection of the intangible Italian cultural heritage. The recognition, received in early June, will be discussed in Rome on June 23 at the Auditorium Ara Pacis, within the conference, promoted by Confcooperative, entitled ” Pro Loco, Cooperazione e Volontariato: la sussidiarietà tradita”. This is a historic milestone for the UNPLI on the 50th anniversary of its founding. As required by the Convention, accredited organizations (only 216 worldwide) may be invited by the Commission to provide UNESCO information and assessments as a reference to select the candidates on the list of intangible cultural heritage that needs urgent protection. “A great recognition,” said UNPLI President, Claudio Nardocci, “for the activities of over 6,000 Italian Pro Loco.” (Roc/Peg)
