(Aug. 2) – It will be inaugurated today in São Paulo the exhibition “Caravaggio e i sue Discepoli” (Caravaggio and his Disciples), organized by Casa Fiat House di Cultura and MASP, in partnership with Bradesco, Momento Italia-Brazil and the Italian Institute of Culture in São Paulo. The exhibition, which is the last big event of the Momento Italia-Brasile Italy, puts on show the various Caravaggio’s stages of life. It is divided into three parts: known works, discoveries and works still under study. Caravaggio used his technique to impress the viewer: the theme of the Italian daily life of his time, the natural shape of the figures, the whole scene in the foreground to emotionally capture the viewer, neutral or dark backgrounds, highlighting the theme represented in contrast with the strong beam of light that illuminates the main object of the work, demonstrating his chiaroscuro technique which makes everything look more “real”, almost alive. The works of 14 artists, known as Caravaggeschi, who were influenced by Caravaggio, could be admired in the same exhibition, which will be on display until September 30th at the Museum of Art. (red)
