(Aug. 31) – A 35 days tour in the United States to raise awareness and funds for Leukemia research. It ended yesterday, two days earlier, the extraordinary solo cycling tour of Luigi Laraia, who started cycling on July 26, from the Italian Embassy in Washington, and covered a distance of nearly 6000 km, with a roadmap of 200 km per day. The 37 year-old economist at World Bank Group in Washington so wanted to give his contribute, through his personal history, to raise awareness about leukemia and to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Laraia, who kept a diary online during the whole trip, has already raised more than 24,000 dollars, and it lacks little to reach its goal of 30.000 dollars. It is still possible to support the cause by make a donation to “Relentless for a cure.” At the end of his tour, Luigi, who has been congratulated on Twitter by Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, commented on his efforts: “Honestly, to me it seems so much easier to climb a mountain than wait for the results of my blood tests. But it’s only up to me to take both things with the same attitude. It’s all in my head and in my heart.” (red)
