(Sept. 3) – To build a shelter to 3,835 meters, a few hundred meters from the summit of Mont Blanc. An extreme challenge that Velux Italia could not grasp because the spectacular Refuge du Goûter, located in the French town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains in the Mont Blanc massif, is like a jewel in a breathtaking scenario. The new shelter is the result of a rigorous study of technologies and materials. Nothing was left to chance to make it as independent and efficient as. The egg shape of the building, covered with panels in stainless steel, is designed to challenge the bad weather and strong winds at high altitudes and to convey the accumulated snow in a recovery basin. The smart management of energy from renewable sources (solar, thermal, photovoltaic and biomass) also makes the refuge. The insulation of the casing is characterized by insulating panels made with recycled fiberglass. Velux Italia has provided 55 windows for energy-saving roofs, composed by triple insulating glass and a further 8 mm outer glass. The windows have been specially designed and manufactured to meet the extreme climate of Mont Blanc, characterized by temperature peaking at -28 ° C in winter and winds up to 300 km/h. After two years of construction, the Refuge du Goûter will open its doors to the public with an inauguration on September 7 and 8, providing a place to rest for climbers before facing the final leg of the ascent.
