Oct. 26 – In memory of the great Spanish musician Andrés Segovia, Roberto Fabbri today plays in the Basilica Nuestra Senora (Madrid) his first concerto for guitar and arch orchestra entitled “Fantasia sin palabras.” Fabbri is the only Italian to participate in the XXVI Festival Internacional Andrés Segovia 2012 – he will play with a José Ramirez guitar, designed by the Spanish atelier just for him, and for which Andrés Segovia was public speaker. The Honorary President to the Festival is Prince Felipe de Asturias, and the “Nova Camera Orquestra”
will be directed by M° José Carlos Martin. The “Fantasia sin palabras”
concerto is composed by six tempos, and Fabbri first recorded it with the “Four Flowers” quartet. The songs are: Il Suo Sorriso, Choronì, Il Cavaliere Errante, Crossing Europe, Rainy Day, and Sunflowers. The musician explains, “Il Cavaliere Errante is the main composition of the concerto and it is openly inspired by Don Quixote to understand the myth behind Segovia – the wandering knight of guitar. The Spanish Master was able to travel and play in all the world with his guitar, transmitting to millions of people his passion for the instrument.
Even with his talent and sharpness, he still reminds me of Cervantes’
crazy genius. My objective is to bring the public closer to classical guitar, and that’s why “Fantasia sin palabras” is a piece I wrote for guitar only, and I later created the orchestral version. The challenge they put in front of me was big: I’m the only Italian composer participating in the Festival, and while I won’t be the only composer on stage at the opening ceremony – Leticia Armijo from Mexico and José M. Jiméne from Spain also composed for the occasion – I will be the only composer-performer. And this is a double responsibility and honor I will never forget.”
