Dec. 4 – “The night shift is done by the stars” is the title of the short film directed by Edoardo Ponti and written by Erri De Luca, distributed in Italy by Feltrinelli. The film was selected, among other 11 titles – out of 125 originally eligible – for the Academy Award for best short film nomination. Produced by Silvia Bizio and Paola Porrini Bisson for Oh! Pen, and filmed in the beautiful location of Trentino (thanks to the support of the Trentino Film Commission and Marketing), the film is the story of a lonely man, Matteo (Enrico Lo Verso), and a married woman, Sonia (Nastassja Kinski), who decide to climb a wall in the Dolomites. He has just gone through a heart transplant, she has just undergone open-heart surgery, and this is their promise to one another, made while waiting in the hospital corridors. Marco (Julian Sands), Sonia’s husband, is worried and feels threatened by the complicity between his wife and Matteo, as their respect and understanding of one another is almost love; but it is indeed something else: it is the respect and thanksgiving for a new life and a new heartbeat. When they reach the peak, it becomes a new starting point for the two characters. “The night shift is done by the stars,” which had its world premiere last year at the International Film Festival of Rome, is a production by Oh Pen and Donkadillo Films, co-produced by Pasta Garofalo and Montura, with the support of Trentino Film Commission and Marketing, and product placement cooperation by San Carlo Food Group.
