Feb. 8 – Two researchers at the University of Florence were called to become members of “Science Europe”, the new non-governmental organization based in Brussels that brings together European research organizations. The purpose of the NGO, as stated on the website of the University of Florence, is to support the development of research, and in particular recording the indications and reflections of the whole European research community on policies, strategies and priorities to be pursued. Lucia Banci, Director of the Research Center of Magnetic Resonance (CERM), enters the Scientific Committee “Life, Environmental and Geo Sciences” while Didierik Sybolt Wiersma of the Lens (European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy), was elected into the Scientific Committee of “Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences”. Their presence is particularly significant, as they are both directors of two internationally relevant departments within the University of Florence, and, with them, the Italian team within Science Europe reaches four members.
