Feb. 8 – All set in Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale for the conference-show by Guinean choreographer and dancer Lamine Keita entitled “The Epic of Keita, the figure of the Griot, the circle of history.” Tonight, “Africa in Genoa-life is a dance, journey into the heart of West Africa,” a social project of cultural exchange, kicks off in the lovely port city. The project, a collaboration between Lamine Keita and the Genoese dancer and choreographer Chiara Martinoli, was created by the Associations Dancing Baobabs and Kibaro and realized in collaboration with Echo art. Tomorrow and the day after Lamine Keita will hold a training workshop of traditional dances at the “Studio of the performing arts,” Vico Tana 16 r, off Via Balbi. Music and dance accompany every aspect of life in Africa: the danced conference offers the combination of word and dance as a powerful means of dissemination and the meeting of two cultures. The project promotes, in fact, a cultural exchange through dance, perceived not just as an artistic expression, but as a means to express daily emotions. The event will consist of a series of meetings and workshops to be held in Genoa between February and May 2013, to allow a discovery path toward Guinea, in a travel-discovery of the oldest rural traditions. At the same time, the choreographic project “African Duo” will evolve, with the comparison of two very different visions: the European artistic expression, and that of the origins, a smaller, village form of expression. The result of this artistic and cultural exchange will be staged at the end of the program.
