Feb. 14 – Philip Young and Paul Brace are the two brave drivers aboard a Fiat Pandawho were awarded the record for driving “non-stop” from Cape Town to London. The incredible journey began on February 1 2013 to raise funds for “Farm Africa” (a charity that works with families in rural Africa by helping them produce food more efficiently). The British crew traveled 10,300 miles (about 16,576 km) aboard a fairly standard Panda across 13 countries and two continents. To complete the journey in less than 11 days, Philip and Paul had to travel an average of 1,000 miles (1,609.34 kilometers) per day at a speed of 40 miles / h (64.37 km / h. The city car was slightly modified by Fiat with an additional fuel tank, two spare wheels, sump guards, reinforced springs and air intake moved above the engine compartment. There was thus no need for a large 4×4 vehicle (Philip and Paul decided that it would be “too easy”), and the Fiat Panda was chosen for its lightness, its performance and its low fuel consumption. Despite the size of the compact car, the rear seat served as bed for the co-pilot thanks to a contoured foam mattress.
