Mar. 13 – Between March 21-23, a delegation of Sardinian weavers will fly to Tunisia as guests of the Tunisian-Sardinian Festival of Weaving, organized in the prestigious Acropolium of Carthage by the Assadakah Italo-Arabic Association and the Tunisian Centre Technique de Création et d’Innovation. The Festival is part of the DIART Project, for “Dialogue Interculturel à travers l’Art du Tapis.” The program is dense and complex: in addition to the standard opening conference that will see local authorities attend, there will be a series of atelier projects to illustrate the history of the Sardinian and Tunisian carpet weaving traditions, techniques and tools, the use of natural dyes and new, eco-friendly techniques for creating textile designs using computers. Moreover, short film on textile tradition in both regions will be presented, shortly after the display of a Sardinian-Tunisian carpet, the result of a mix of techniques derived from the two styles. The Festival will conclude with an award ceremony for the weaving competition, which will praise the best of Tunisian and Sardinian artisans. The carpets finalists will exhibit their creations in the Acropolium of Carthage for the duration of the Festival.
