Apr. 18 – On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth and the Year of Italian Culture in the United States, the association “Waiting for ONLUS” celebrates Verdi with a series of concerts in American universities. The project is aimed in particular at young talents by creating a dialogue between Italy and U.S. around the figure and work of the composer. The program, created in collaboration with Fucina Italia, offers different ideas in tune with the specific objectives of “Waiting for ONLUS.” Founded by Francesca Parvizyar, who is also curator of this project, Waiting for ONLUS promotes the development of new talents, their academic training and further education. The protagonists of this contribution to the Year of Italian Culture in the United States will be: Gesualdo Coggi, pianist, among the most followed of his generation, who presents tonight at the Italian House Zerilli Marimò of New York University Liszt compositions for piano based on Giuseppe Verdi’s operas; and four young singers, led by Elena Rizzo, who later in Chicago, Sunday, will perform a sophisticated adaptation for two pianos and solo voices of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem.
