Apr 19 – The Šternberský Palace Prague is hosting an exhibition entitled “Vivarini 1451 meeting after more than 100 years,” created under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Prague, the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague and the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The exhibition – inaugurated at the Eleutheria foundation in collaboration with the National Gallery in Prague – was set up by: Petr Pribyl, curator of the collection of ancient art at the European National Gallery in Prague; by Genny Di Bert, curator of the Eleutheria foundation; and the architect Ottaviano Maria Razetto, who also oversaw the overall architectural design. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to reconstruct, with 7 of the original 11 tables, the polyptych made in 1451 by Antonio and Bartolomeo Vivarini. The exhibition brings together the 5 panels at the National Gallery in Prague and the two from the private collection of Vittorio Sgarbi. The brothers Antonio and Bartolomeo Vivarini are among the most important painters of the Venetian 15th century. The exhibition – which will remain open until 15 June – is a great opportunity to admire the masterpieces of Italian Renaissance art. The Polyptych in question is also an important moment in the personal history of the Vivarini brothers who, a few years later (in 1459), broke off their partnership.
