May 22 – Stefano Passerotti, the “brave gardener” from Orticolario (the event dedicated to gardening held every year in Cernobbio on the Como Lake), and the garden designer Anna Piussi participated with their project “The Sonic Pangea Garden” to the 100th edition of the London “Chelsea Flower Show.” The two won the bronze medal in what is considered one of the most important events of floriculture in the world. Piussi and Passerotti are among the few Italians who had the opportunity to participate in this great global showcase, which can be accessed only after passing several stages of selection. Passerotti, who coordinated “Orticolario 2012,” and Piussi, winner of last year’s “Best layout of the garden,” proposed a project that was shortlisted in the “Fresh Gardens” category – dedicated to the most original set ups. “The Sonic Pangea Garden” is inspired by the classical myth: an enchanted forest carpeted with plants, with a clearing in the woods revealing a sacred altar to the god of the woods, Pan, and a circular chaise-longue in honor of Gaea, or Mother Earth. Francesco Mantero, creator of the sound concept behind Orticolario 2012, composed the soundtrack for the project. The structures of the chaise-longue and the altar are made by FDM F.lli Mazzola, who constantly collaborate with Orticolario and who, under the brand name iFlame, provide each new edition with bio-torches. During the scheduled Orticolario, 2013, iFlame curate the ambiance for “Water and Fire in the Dock.” This year’s edition is scheduled for October 4-6 in Villa Erba on the Como Lake, and its general theme is to instigate visitors to commit – relentlessly and without remorse – “gluttony in the garden.
