May 23 – The children of the village of Al Mansouri, in the south of Lebanon, received eight computers donated by a children’s school in Grosseto via the “A classmate more” project. Sponsored by UNESCO Club-Grosseto Maremma in collaboration with the Municipality of Grosseto and some schools in the area, the project, followed by Dr. Ilaria Vasarri, language teacher and founding member of the UNESCO Club-Grosseto Maremma, is the first of international breadth developed by the Club-Grosseto Maremma. Born in September 2012 on occasion of the World Peace Day, the project is fueled by the desire to build a communication and solidarity bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean and help create the best study conditions for children in southern Lebanon, for decades battered by a hateful conflict. Recipients of the donation are the children of local staff at the P 1-26UN base, command center of Italblatt, near the southern border of Lebanon. These children recently received laptops donated by their teammates on the other side of the Mediterranean. In the course of the project, many other Tuscan school have joined, including the “Giovanni Pascoli” and “Dante Alighieri” middle schools. The Municipality of Grosseto contributed, through the Department for Education policies and with the help of Sed, via the installation in the computers of the Linux open source operating system in Arabic. It also found additional laptops and created a plaque with the names of all project partners. The 3rd regiment “Savoia Cavalleria” in Grosseto then made itself made available to carry on its cargo ship to Lebanon the material collected in Grosseto.
