July 1 – Amerigo Vespucci, a sailing ship and training vessel of the Italian Navy, under the command of Captain Curzio Pacifici, will be in the Livorno port until the July 8th, open to the public for tours. This break period follows the education campaign conducted for 124 1st and 2nd course students at the venetian naval School “Francesco Morosini,” where the curriculum focuses not only on navigation, training and education but also on environmental protection. On July 4, the captain will receive a poster from the regional UNICEF office, elaborated by children participating in a contest on the theme “The sea to unite, the beaches to receive.” In the past fortnight, the unit has been the scene of Navy and WWF projects forming a new campaign, titled “The Sea must live,” promoting water quality in the Mediterranean. The campaign will be presented on board Saturday, July 6, with a concurrent display of promotional material for the WWF. The Vespucci leaves Livorno July 8, in the morning, after boarding the Naval Academy’s first class students, to start the “2013 education campaign.” It will take place mainly in the North Sea with an itinerary that will see the Italian ship touch the ports of Barcelona (12-15 July), La Coruna (25-29 July), London (5-10 August), Hamburg (14-19 August), Antwerp (23-26 August), Lisbon (5-9 September), Malaga (12-13 September) and will end with the return in Livorno on September 21.
