July 17 – The Italian adventure at the World Paragliding Championship began in the best way possible. As the event made its debut in in Sopot (Bulgaria), Turin-born Marco Littamè won the first race, while another Turin-native, Davide Cassetta, placed 8th. There are ten races in all, if weather conditions remain stable; the path to victory is still long, but the Italians are well prepared to compete with the other 146 pilots representing 37 nations from around the world. In addition Littame and Cassetta, the other Italians on the team are: Nicole Fedele from Gemona (Udine), European champion in office and winner of the 2012 World Championship; from Trentino Christian Biasi and Luca Donini, the latter vice-champion of the world, and by the Bologna-native Alberto Vitale. The team leader is Alberto Castagna from Cologno Monzese (Milan).
