Aug. 7 – Mobile financial and banking services developed by PosteMobile will be active in 34 countries thanks to the newly acquired patent for phone-operations’ management. The European Patent Organization is an intergovernmental body, headquartered in Munich, that oversees and manages the release of all new patents, including the recently granted one to PosteMobile for their banking and financial transactions’ procedure for mobile phones. The company developed a mechanism by which high security standards are guaranteed, with a method based on a SIM card performing services with high security features. The patent effectively gives PosteMobile the intellectual property rights over the system and opens new commercial opportunities. From an operational perspective, the technology allowing the identification of a client and the content of her transaction are detectable and allowed only by the Italian company, and to third parties only when authorized by PosteMobile, not only for SIM cards but other technologies and instruments as well. The patent extends to the whole identification procedure, from the generation of the access codes to the data transmission of completed operations via encrypted messages, thus preventing third parties from freely adopting it in the 34 EPO member countries.
