Sept. 30 – “We always try to consider the requests for help that come our way, so we could not remain silent regarding the grave situation in which young people, mostly children, live in Nicaragua,” said Peitro Biscu general manager for Assembly Data System, an Italian company that operates in the telecommunications industry with over 700 employees. Biscu explains the decision to participate in the 15th edition of the Nicaragua Workcamp held from July 25 to August 14), a charitable initiative founded in 1999 to help the local population, strongly affected by Hurricane Mitch. Hurricane Mitch, in the winter of 1998, crippled the country, causing numerous casualties and great damage to homes and agricultural land. Specifically, Assembly Data System funded the dispatch of a group of volunteers who worked for three weeks for the construction of a school: a structure of about 70 square meters built from scratch in a particularly poor rural area. “Despite the exponential growth of the company, which took place in the last 5 years, and the difficulties related to the economic crisis – said Biscu – the company wants to maintain its CSR policies, participating in social initiatives.” The Italian students were coordinated in the performance by the ICU – Institute for University Cooperation – a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to the development of social and economic growth in difficult regions.
