Oct. 7 – The Turkish railway system is in need of a certification and Italy is willing to lend a hand. Italcertifer, the Italian Institute of Research and Certification Station, is a center of excellence in the field of certification and inspection of rail transport, and it has been called to certify the new Turkish Railways Irmak – Zonguldak railway line (over 420 miles). The Society of the Italian Ferrovie dello Stato Group will focus on the assessment of technical security compliance aspects for the infrastructure, the superstructure, the telecommunications and control systems, and the management and signaling of rail traffic (Control Command & Signalling). Yapi Merkezi, Turkish Construction Company, and Bombardier, the two companies that are building the new railway line, entrusted the task to Italcertifer. The total amount of the contract is worth €1 million. The certification process will last one year, consistent with the timing of construction of the railway line.
