Oct. 8 – ” Va pensiero” to “That’s Amore,” “New York, New York,””Funiculì funiculà” and “Volare” are just some of the pieces in the rich and engaging repertoire proposed by InCanto , a group formed by Laura Celletti, Claudia Coticelli, Rossella Ruini and Francesca Tiddi: four Italian sopranos, symbol of the country’s uncontested lyrical hegemony. The four performers are ready to conquer America with reinterpretations of Verdi and Morricone’s masterpieces. The four will be the protagonists of the English Heritage 2013 event, which will be held tomorrow – October 9th – on Columbus Day in New York. They will propose a classic Italian repertoire with songs like “Caruso” or “Con te partirò,” without forgetting the Neapolitan tradition “I te vurria vasà”, “‘0 Sole Mio,” “C’era una volta in America (I knew I loved you)”, “Tarantella” by Rossini, “Brindisi” from “ La Traviata”, and “Casta Diva”. InCanto will perform at Gracie Mansion, on 88th street and they will be the only musical guest of the evening. New York Mayor Michael Rubens Bloomberg decided to invite InCanto because of the international reputation that the 4 sopranos have gained through numerous tours and the peculiarity of their group. Bloomberg has strongly backed their presence at the Columbus Foundation and the Italian Heritage to pay homage to the Italian community in the month dedicated to the Italian culture in the US. InCanto have thus rearranged for the occasion the Italian and American national anthems, almost blending them into a single melody sealing the alliance between America and Italy. The quartet will return to Italy on Oct. 18 after a number of gigs in American theaters.
