Oct. 24 – After the center in Morada Nova, Opera Don Orione opens a new center in Brazil for addiction recovery and the fight against alcoholism in Campos do Jordao, located on the mountain range that runs along the Atlantic Ocean, halfway between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The new center is on the mountains, isolated, surrounded by lush nature and water. The structures that host today the rehab center were once the holiday residence of a Brazilian bank. The Don Orione community of “Nossa Senhora Achiropita ” in Sao Paulo bought the land and buildings to then create and organize the new community dedicated to Mary “Rainha da paz.” At full capacity, the facility will accommodate 30 people, who will be assisted by medical personnel: a psychologist and a psychiatrist, and volunteers of Don Orione Secular Movement. “Brazil has an urgent need to combat addictions to drugs, alcohol, and gambling and this new center wants to meet this need,” said the provincial director of Don Orione in Brazil, Aparecido Da Silva, who adds: ” in the whole region there aren’t similar facilities, but only hospital treatments that provide palliative substances.”
