(Dec. 2) – “Rebetiko has always had subversive content, it has the chromosome of rebellion, of individual revolt. Rebeta comes from the Turkish rebet, to rebel or the one who will not flinch when the cities are on fire,” said Vinicio Capossela about rebetiko, the Greek popular music genre explored in his latest album, “Rebetiko Gymnastas.” The album focuses on the Hellenic country in this difficult time in its history. The singer will go on tour in Spain and Turkey from Dec. 11, when Capossela will be in concert in Barcelona, at the Sala Apolo for the Millennia Festival, while on Dec. 17 he will perform in Istanbul. “Rebetiko – explains Capossela – is a genre that laments about what we have lost, a music that does not forget its origins. You can play it only in closed places, where you can drink and play a single instrument. Overall, it’s a shared type of music, like a communion.”
