Dec. 24 – Amanipi is a small village in northern Uganda in the West Nile region, near the border with Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Amanipi is located in an area of extreme poverty – marked by more than twenty years of civil war. And Italian journalists decided to turn the spotlight on this reality via Casagit (The Autonomous Integrative Assistance Fund of Italian Journalists), which supports the “Amanipi Project”. The project is the result of a 2009 cooperation agreement between Italy and Uganda to promote the right to education and the activities of women, in particular by helping war widows and their children return to West Nile after years of residence in refugee camps across the border, and rebuild the social fabric of the village. “Amanipi Project” is the result of a meeting between apparently distant realities: a secular and a Christian soul, a European and an African, one female and one male. Sara, a young anthropologist in Uganda for academic research, and Ciriako, a missionary priest originally from Amanipi, combined their different paths in the name of solidarity. Anyone can support the “Amanipi Project” through casagit.it, or directly on amanipiproject.altervista.org.
