Jan. 1 – 2013 was a year celebrated with Italian sparkling wines, not only in Italy but abroad as well. The product’s export rate increased by 16% in the past year, for more than 700 million bottles sold. The highest increases in purchases were in China, where exports doubled (+101%), while in Russia exports grew by 31%. This success is further confirmed by a boom in purchases of Italian sparkling wine in the United Kingdom (+50%), which became the second largest importer after the United States, where imports also grew by 24%. Overall, 290 million bottles of Italian sparkling wine were exported abroad, which compared to the 150 million uncorked in Italy in 2013, is rather impressive.
