Jan. 3 – Enel Green Power looks at the future, and its seems bright for the company entirely dedicated to the development and management of power generation from renewable sources at the international level: it has recently been awarded long-term contracts for the supply of energy in Brazil in the public bid “Pernambuco ‘s Solar Tender” for two photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 11 MW. In particular, the two plants will be contiguous and located in the State of Pernambuco, in northeastern Brazil. In the same area, EGP is building Source dos Ventos, a wind farm of 80 MW, which will be connected to both photovoltaic systems. At full capacity, the two plants will generate up to 17 GWh, thus avoiding the emission of more than 5000 tonnes of CO2 per year. As part of the bid, Enel Green Power was awarded a 20-year contract for the sale of a fixed amount of energy produced by the two plants to final customers in the state of Pernambuco. The 11 MW solar plants join EGP’s presence in the country, in particular the 503 MW of wind and hydroelectric power awarded in public tenders in Brazil in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. 283 MW are already under construction; and the 93 MW of hydro capacity are already in operating. The two new projects represent a further step in the diversification strategy of Enel Green Power in Brazil. Also in the photovoltaic sector, Enel Green Power is building a plant in Brazil of 1.2 MW thin film that will provide the energy needed for the construction of three hydroelectric plants “Jump Apiacás”, “Capeza de Boi” and “Fazenda” in the State of Mato Grosso. In the same sector, Enel Green Power has also recently started construction of its first photovoltaic plant in Chile, ” Diego de Almagro,” located in the Atacama region, which will have a total installed capacity of 36 MW. Once in operation, Diego de Almagro will be able to generate up to 80 GWh of energy per year. Brazil is among the first countries in the world for the production of “clean” energy thanks to more than 98 000 MW of installed renewable capacity, which represents approximately 85% of total installed capacity in the country. In Brazil, through Endesa, Enel also runs about 1 GW of installed capacity in the field of distribution in the states of Ceara and Rio De Janeiro with about 6 million customers, while Endesa operates a transmission line interconnection between Brazil and Argentina.
