Jan. 23 – Emma Marrone will carry the Italian flag at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. The international competition that sees 37 countries challenge each other in a musical contest, this year will be held in May in Copenhagen. This is a new prestigious concert venue for the Salento—based singer, the highest-selling female artist in Italy in 2013. Last year was a golden year for Emma, who conquered the audience with her live shows in November and December, bringing over 85.000 spectators to the most important Italian stadiums. Almost four years since her victory on the Channel 5 “Friends by Maria de Filippi,” the 9th edition of the popular talent show, Emma still doesn’t show signs of slowing down. Her success continues to grow as she wins awards and gold, platinum and multiplatinum albums. She participated twice in the Festival of Sanremo, in 2011 with Modà, when she came in second with the song “Arriverà,” and the following year, when she won first place with “Non è l’inferno.” She has performed with the “Notte della Taranta” at the Arena di Verona. Surely today Emma, who some believe represents determination, femininity, sensuality and talent, is one of the most loved and popular Italian artists and her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest confirms it. This year, RAI will broadcast the event on its own channels. In particular, the semi-finals on May 6-8 will be broadcast live on Rai4 while the final on May 10 will be broadcast live on Rai2.
