(Feb. 7) – “Today Tunisia celebrates a rebirth . A new constitution is always the most profound symbol of the determination of a nation who wants to re-establish the rules of collective coexistence and improve the individual fate of each person. Your Constitution marks a historic moment with courage because it addresses the challenge of democracy after a long period of dictatorship , discriminations and abuses. The demolition of the old regime has triggered the transition to a new structure. This Tunisian Spring has become a “Right Spring”. So said Italy’s Senate President Pietro Grasso, called to represent Italy in the extraordinary session of the National Constituent Assembly of Tunisia , on the day of entry into force of the new Constitution. “I want to commend the men and women of the National Constituent Assembly and all political and social forces that, with maturity, wisdom and tenacity, have been able to settle through dialogue ideologies and different visions, creating a balanced synthesis between tradition and modernity, tradition and future. This ability of yours to renew in continuity provides an extraordinary proof of liability which will surely have effects elsewhere. The Constitution is in many ways far-sighted and courageous. Tunisia today is stronger, and this force will be felt across the region and throughout the world where there are people who wish for freedom and reform. This belief should lead us all to pursue with determination and conviction the euro-Mediterranean cooperation, wich has so far achieved disappointing results. Ital , which is the gateway to Europe’s geography, history and tradition, firmly believes in the need for a shared policy in the Mediterranean to address common problems together, such as security, stability, rights, immigration and integration, economic growth, job opportunities”.
