Feb. 13 – Eni continues to collect successes, with important results coming in from Mozambique, Ghana, Angola, Norway, Australia , Pakistan and Egypt. The latest success is however in Congo. On the day Eni released its 2013 consolidated balance sheet, which say their profit grow by 24%, Eni also confirms it has had another success in block Marine XII, of which the company is operator, located about 17 kilometers from the Congolese coast. The exploration well, Nene Marine 3, which led to the important result, was drilled in a water depth of 28 meters and has encountered a significant wet gas and light oil accumulation in the pre-salt clastic sequence outlining a significant extension to the west of the reservoir and its hydraulic continuity. As explained in an Eni statement, Nene Marine 3 is located 2 kilometers from the discovery well Nene Marine 1 and 4 km from Nene Marine 2. During the production test in the oil interval, the well flowed over 5,000 barrels of oil per day at 36° API gravity. In light of these promising results, Eni estimates that the Nene Marine field contain 1.2 billion barrels of oil, and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The company also estimates that the overall potential of Nene Marine and the neighboring Litchjendilj Marine fields stands at 2.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The block’s yet to be explored mineral potential will be duly assessed in the coming exploratory campaigns. Eni, which holds 65 % of the Marine XII Block, quickly kicked off a join initiative with its local partners – New Age (25%) and the state company SNPC (Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo, 10 %) – to carry out studies ensuring the rapid commercial development of these significant hydrocarbon reserves, and launch a first oil production as early as 2016.
