Feb. 18 – In the 18th century, Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), architect, antiquarian, landscape artist, illustrator and engraver, captured the greatness of the ancient past. Giovanni Battista Piranesi is considered one of the greatest art and design exponents of all time and one of the most famous examples of Italy’s contribution to world cultural heritage. His works will be on display in Australia, from February 22, at the National Library in Melbourne. His extraordinary engravings, especially his ” Views of Rome,” will be in one of the most fascinating venues across Australia. The public will be offered the opportunity to see the precious works first collected by English noblemen who first moved to Italy, and are now kept in museums. In all his works, Piranesi shows his incredible knowledge of perspective, archaeology and urbanism, as well as his unconditional love for classical and baroque Rome.
