Mar. 18 – Two weeks dedicated to international cooperation in Africa and the fight against child malnutrition in Burkina Faso, with a photographic exhibition, meetings in schools, a technical seminar for medical staff and a conference open to all. These are the events organized by the Bolzano-based NGO Civil Volunteering Group (GVC), an independent and secular organization that for 40 years has fought to make the world a better place. The program was elaborated with the Development Cooperation Agency of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Healthcare administration of Bolzano, with the support and cooperation of the Mattone Internazionale project. As stated on the website of the organization, the program kicks off this afternoon in the hospital in Bolzano, with the presentation of the program of events and the opening of the exhibition “Feeding the change. Malnutrition in Burkina Faso.” Speakers include the president of GVC, Patrizio Santillo, and the doctor in charge of the project in Burkina Faso, Franco De Giorgio. The exhibition – which will remain open until Sunday, March 30th – presents photographs taken by photojournalist Luciano Nadalini to document the intervention against child malnutrition carried out by GVC in Burkina Faso. The event will continue tomorrow, when Dr. Franco De Giorgi, along with volunteers from Operation Daywork, will speak of the intervention in Burkina Faso in two high schools to raise students’ awareness on the issues of global health and of equitable and sustainable development. Also on Tuesday, the conference room of the hospital in Bolzano will host the in-depth seminar on “Feeding earth and peace: food security in Burkina Faso,” which will discuss the causes and health, cultural and political aspects of malnutrition in Africa.
