Apr. 9 – Trieste University will carry out two research projects on air traffic management and port traffic management. Both ambitious, they are backed by funding from the Sesar Joint Undertaking in collaboration with Eurocontrol – European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, who pledged €250.000 to the Engineering and Architecure Department of the Università degli Studi di Trieste. The Sesar project will reassess the current air traffic management system; the project is under the supervision of Sesar Joint Undertaking; and it is a public-private collaboration. The funding for Trieste covers the expenses for Saturn – Strategic Allocation of Traffic Using Redistribution in the Network. Saturn will develop models and algorithms to optimize air transport offer and demand. It is coordinated by Lorenzo Castelli and sees the participation of: Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgrade University, and Westminster University. The other project, Access, will study innovative techniques to allocate port slots, a critical and precious resource. Access is coordinated by Nommon Solutions and Technologies, a start-up based in Madrid, and sees the participation of: Alg-Indra, a Spanish consulting companies for transport logistics; Valladolid University’s Social Systems Engineering Centre, and Università di Trieste.
