Apr. 10 – Reuse, Reduce, Recycle: Rotoprint Sovrastampa for more than 30 years has worked on reconverting packaging material, providing each client with a customized solution, enhancing design quality but never forgetting environmental sustainability. Rotoprint Sovrastampa makes 100% recycled packaging by overprinting obsolete or defective packages. And now the European Aluminium Foil Association, the most important European association related to aluminum processing technologies, has decided to award the Lombard company the Alufoil Trophy 2014 in the category “Resource Efficiency.” Indeed, Rotoprint won for its constant contribution, with customers, to increase savings and environmental sustainability. The award is usually presented to winning companies during the German trade fair Interpack, held Düsseldorf April 8-14. “This award will allow us to promote our overprint technology, which still speaks to a niche market, throughout Europe,” said Giovanni Luca Arici, owner of Rotoprint. The company’s method allows to correct errors, modify graphics and text, change entire packaging material that are deemed obsolete or defective. Companies usually have to stock or dismantle these materials, and this entails high costs as well as the production of new packaging. Rotoprint’s award-winning work is a perfect example of what Rotoprint truly does. “The customer – says Arici – had launched a new flavor, apricot, for its line of packaged fruit, and had in stock a large amount of aluminum coil already printed with a pattern of strawberries for the lids. So, he turned to us to change it completely, overprinting the material with a new concept.” “It’s a fantastic result – said Marc Caul, a jury member for EAFA – usually when we talk about efficient resources we imagine a simple reduction of the used materials, but here we have a 100% recycling methods for a material that would have been entirely discarded, and that is why the award is fully deserved.”
