Apr. 21 – Two Italian projects are among the ten finalists at the second edition of the European Commission for Social Innovation. The award was established in memory of Diogo Vasconcelos, President of the Social Innovation eXchange, an international community of 5000 individuals and organizations engaged in the social innovation promotion. This year, the theme is social innovation and employment. 1200 projects were submitted, among which the ten finalists were selected from Italy, Belgium, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The first Italian project was submitted by “From waste to wow!”. The project seeks to recycle high quality waste in the fashion industry to produce limited collections, by employing disadvantaged women, and creating highly marketable products. The second Italian project is “Waste -Fab –Lab,” which creates short-cuts to recycle waste products via open innovation, co-design and 3D printing.
