May 19 – 30 works by Italian artist Donatella Izzo will be on display in Poland starting today. The solo exhibition of the Milanese photographer will be inaugurated today at the Photography Foundation of Rzeszow and will remain open to the public until June 18. The 30 works are a selection of shots in small and large format from the series “The Dreamers” and “Insomnia.” In “The Dreamers,” Izzo chose as her research subjects the abandoned and forgotten factories and industrial sites that the artist “recovers” and turns into the backgrounds of a world populated by many different characters: a pair of sumo wrestlers, a deer that looks like it came from a fairy tale, delicate female figures in oriental clothes, sheep and chickens. The symbolic and magical scenery give back an identity to those places that were deprived of it. The black works in the “Insomnia” series are characterized by the strong chromatic impact of absolute black on white background, a choice that emphasizes the sense of emptiness and isolation of the figures.
