Abuja – “Africa is a constantly changing economic, social and political reality. An we have to contribute to its development to ensure that it becomes an increasingly important player on the international scene,” says the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, during the Africa Day 2014 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which this year focuses on “Africa and Italy: scientific cooperation for sustainable development.” Mogherini then turned to new important data: “foreign investment in Africa has duplicated; the level of schooling has increased and child deaths have decreased; the middle class has tripled in the last 30 years; in many countries, the level of GDP is steadily increasing.” Mogherini then described as “terrible act” the recent kidnapping of the Nigerian schoolgirls, and renewed her “solidarity and closeness” with the local government.
