June 2 – The 11th edition of the International Ecological and Archaeological Film Festival of Nis, southern Serbia, will have a little bit of Italy: the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade participates in the event with five Italian documentaries (presented in the original version with subtitles in Serbian). Italy received the honor of opening the event with three documentaries that will be screened during the inaugural evening on June 4. The Festival will begin with “Lazio, paesaggio e storia” by Folco Quilici, which illustrates the natural beauty and important history of the region, the heart of the Ancient Roman civilization. The other two documentaries bring the audience through an ideal journey across the Italian Peninsula, discovering the Roman ruins hidden in Trieste’s modern urban fabric, and the unusual and fascinating Pompeii with the reconstruction of what was daily life on the eve of the fatal eruption of 79 AD. Italy also opens on June 5 with eco-sustainable documentaries: “Archivi di pietra. Graffitismo pastorale in Val di Fiemme” by Paolo Cova, on the moving testimonies of those pastors in Trentino, who left traces of their passage with small signs carved in the rocks, according to an ancient tradition that dates back to prehistoric times. Italy’s participation ends with a documentary about Umbria and Lazio’s ancient sites and monuments, lands of ancient civilization and deep spirituality.
