June 5 – After 20 minutes of applause that celebrated his interpretation of Falstaff at the Teatro Municipal in Sao Paulo, and after the success last December at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (where he celebrated its 200th Falstaff performance), the Italian baritone Ambrogio Maestri returned to play the Giuseppe Verdi character for the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. The show makes its debut on June 7 with Daniele Gatti conducting and Robert Carsen directing. The even is part of the “Holland Festival 2014.” “At this point in my life, after more than 200 performances with him, I can say that Sir John is now a life companion – says Maestri – a mirror in which I see reflected my personal and artistic growth as a performer; he is a character that somehow represents my conscience.”
